The Department was founded in 2001 and has evolved to become an academic department renowned nationally and internationally, providing leading research and education in geovisualisation and geocommunication. During year two, the GeoVisualisation and Geocommunication specialization track courses will rely on the outstanding Department’s expertise inter alia in Cartography and Design in Geovisualisation as well as on Web and Cognitive Cartography, 3D Visualization and Advanced visualization methods. The Department of Geoinformatics was founded in 2001 and has evolved to become an academic department that offers high quality education and research, renowned both nationally and internationally, with a focus on following research fields: Geo‐Visualization and Geo‐Application Development, Spatial modelling of geographical phenomena in GIS, Digital cartography, Remote monitoring of landscape. Faculty members are engaged in the wide area of cartographic research topics, which deal with cognition of maps complexity, 3D visualization, uncertainty, map elements and layout and other themes, in the well-equipped eye-tracking laboratory. 2014, a 3D printing lab has been established and is being used for research and teaching purposes. Furthermore, the Department of Geoinformatics is a leading academic unit in research and application of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The contactless monitoring research area focuses on two specialisations i) small-format imaging of the earth’s surface with subsequent data processing and ii) the integration of sensors and sensor networks into the geospatial technology (spatial databases, sensors web).
