Who is a Self-Funded (self-paying) Student?

Students who do not receive an Erasmus+ EMJM scholarship within the CDE programme are considered self-funded students. This includes students who cover their own study costs through savings or employment, receive financial support from family or friends, hold other international scholarships or grants, take out a student loan, receive employer sponsorship, or use other sources of funding.

Depending on the conditions outlined in the current call for applications, self-funded students may not have to pay participation cost fees at any of the partner universities in the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Programme. This fee waiver is considered a Consortium Scholarship to self-funded students who do not receive an EMJM scholarship.

Proof of sufficient financial means for visa & programme. Please note, in Austria, a third country’s student with admission to a university and staying for longer than 6 months needs to apply for a residence permit student. The following forms of proof of financial means are eligible as listed by the OeAD Checklist for a “Residence Permit Student – Student”.

Estimated monthly living costs: € 600,00 for accommodation (average costs at dormitory), € 300,00 for food (basics), € 300,00 other costs.

Be prepared to cover the cost of living; there may also be administrative costs, such as library cards, books, photocopying charges, minor student liability insurance premiums, etc.
